The Sinner’s Prayer

The Sinner’s Prayer is only an outline to follow when asking Jesus into your heart. It’s important to repent, and tell God you believe He is LORD but there is no right or wrong way to express these feelings. Use the words provided below or add your own words to make the prayer more personal.

Sin separates us from God but if we repent (turn from our sins) God not only forgives us but He promises eternal life. This is a FREE gift through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8 (WEB) says, “by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” This means you can’t earn salvation with good deeds. All you need is faith in Jesus Christ.

The Sinner’s Prayer is not specifically mentioned in the Bible but it is based on Romans 10:9-13. “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For whoever calls upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

The Sinner’s Prayer

Jesus, I repent of all my sins. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead three days later. I ask you to come into my heart and teach me your ways. I want to build a personal friendship with you. Thank you for loving me. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.

Jesus said in John 3:5-8 (WEB), “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom. That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’ The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” After saying the Sinner’s Prayer you are now “born” again. Welcome to the family!

Did you know that once you repent of your sins, God doesn’t remember them? Hebrews 10:17 (WEB) states, “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” God is a good God!

What’s Next?

Make a commitment to read the Bible and pray everyday. Pray (talk) to God just as you would if you picked up the phone and called a friend. He can handle any emotion or problem you are facing. Don’t forget to thank God for the good things that happen in your life whether big or small. All good gifts are from Him and just like anyone who gives a gift to someone else they appreciate receiving thanks and gratitude. Get involved with a local or online church so you have a community surrounding you. Be baptized by immersion. Going underwater symbolizes your “old” self dying to sin and coming up out of the water represents your “new” self and being filled with the Holy Spirit.
