Self-Esteem God's Way

The old saying, “you are what you eat” is true, but it also applies to your thoughts. What you think effects your feelings and your actions. Paying attention to what you say to yourself can be life changing.  Self-Esteem God’s way means changing your perspective and seeing yourself the way God sees you. It involves 3 critical truths. 


1. You are a Child of God

2. You are worthy of love
3. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

 

Stop Believing the Enemy's Lies

You first must accept and believe these truths found in the Bible.  If you think negatively about yourself then you are believing the enemy’s lies and not God’s truth. He created you because He loves you and wants to spend time with you. What a boost of confidence that is for your heart and soul! God wants you to love yourself and feel good about who you are. 

 

God had a good plan for your life established before He made the world. He knows how many hairs are on your head. He knows every detail about you and loves you just the way you are. He sent His only Son to die on the cross for you. Our minds can’t even comprehend the unconditional and unending love He has for us.  

Studying the Bible and learning about God will boast your self-esteem. God wants you to grow in your faith and draw closer to Him. Being a Child of God is your new identity and your foundation is Jesus Christ and His love.  You will experience less fear, less anxiety, and more confidence the more you study God’s Word and go deeper into your relationship with Him. God is pure love so if you don’t love yourself it’s as if you are telling God he is wrong and God is NEVER wrong about anything. He never makes a mistake. 

 

 “O Lord, my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.” Psalms 30:2

Call out to God for help to change your low self-esteem. 

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you better thoughts. 

 

Do This When You Feel Insecure

Whenever you feel insecure, weak, or bad about yourself repeat 10 x each 3 x per day the following statement: “I am a Child of God and worthy of love.” Do this for 90 days and you will start to feel better about yourself. Even if you don’t believe it when you start this process every cell in your body is listening to what you say.  No one loves you more or so unconditionally as God does. You’re always safe with Him. This knowledge of His unconditional love gives us confidence and courage. 

 

Words are powerful – they can hurt or heal so use God’s words of truth and love to fill your mind with and fight against the low self-esteem and negative self-talk. Satan wants us to have low self-esteem so that he can get a stronghold in our mind. Don’t let him.  Galatians 4:7 states, “I am no longer a slave to fear. I am a Child of God.” Trust it, believe it, and live it! Seek God’s wisdom and the Fruit of the Spirit which will help build character and confidence in the person God created you to be.  

God's Opinion Counts - Not Social Media

We don’t have to feel inferior to others when we tell ourselves we are a Child of God. It’s His opinion that matters not people on Facebook or Instagram. Don’t measure your self-worth by the world’s standards. Step into your role as a Child of God and the blessings and inheritance that come with it. If you don’t feel accepted or loved by a parent, focus on your Heavenly Father who loves you no matter what. It’s unconditional and never changes! Live in His love and His world. He makes available to us the same power that raised Jesus from the grave. Tapping into that and living in the power of the Holy Spirit will change your weaknesses into strengths. Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  Ask God to clean up your thoughts and renew your mind. 

 

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 

may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 

and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the  fullness of God. 

Ephesians 3:16-19

 

Replace Negative Thoughts with God's Word

This is not an overnight change. It does take time and effort but you must take every thought captive. It takes 21 days to break a habit so be patient with yourself but don’t give up. If your thought doesn’t match up with God’s word bind it up in Jesus’ name. Every time you have a negative thought replace it with God’s word. 

 

To get the process started write down every negative thing you say to yourself. Awareness is the first step in identifying what lies you are believing. The second step is to find a Bible verse (the truth) to counteracts the lie.  It’s important to ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in what affirmations and Bible verses to speak.  The next step might sound kinda funny but it’s best to speak the Bible verses and affirmations out loud. Why? Simply because it brings more power and focus on them. There will be times when this isn’t feasible so continue saying them silently. They are still effective. You CAN do this! God is waiting and eager to help you.
